The Fabulous Sound of /F/

When working on speech sounds with children, some are easier than others! For example, we can easily incorporate practicing the sound /s/ into practice because we pluralize words on a daily basis. The  sound /f/ can be a bit trickier since it is not as common in our day to day repertoire of sounds! Below is a song that can be a bit tricky for children to catch on with all of the different words but is a great start to hearing the sound /f/ over and over… and over again! The song actions, counting and visuals should keep them engaged in the beginning stages while they are learning it.

Song Actions:

Hold up the number of flies on fingers

“looking for fresh fruit” hand out over eyes looking here and there

“with their flashy fancy wings fluttering  so fast” hands by the body pretending to be wings

“then along came a funny frog” – frog hop

“mmmMmmmmm” rubbing belly like the flies are delicious.

Five Friendly Flies

Five friendly flies flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With their flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

Forgetful of the frogs who want them as a snack

Then along came a funny frog hungry as can be and  SLLLLLLLLLLUUURRRPP

MMmmmMmmmm

Four friendly flies flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With their flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

Forgetful of the frogs who want them as a snack

Then along came a funny frog hungry as can be and

SLLLLLLLLLLUUURRRPP

MMmmmMmmmm

Three friendly flies flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With their flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

Forgetful of the frogs who want them as a snack

Then along came a funny frog hungry as can be and

SLLLLLLLLLLUUURRRPP

MMmmmMmmmm

Two friendly flies flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With their flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

Forgetful of the frogs who want them as a snack

Then along came a funny frog hungry as can be and

SLLLLLLLLLLUUURRRPP

MMmmmMmmmm

One friendly fly flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With his flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

Forgetful of the frogs who want them as a snack

Then along came a funny frog hungry as can be and

SLLLLLLLLLLUUURRRPP

MMmmmMmmmm

No more friendly flies flying so fast

Looking for fresh fruit to eat up as a snack

With their flashy fancy wings fluttering so fast

A funny forest green frog ate them as a snack.

GREAT song Julie! What a fun way to expose children to the sounds they are working on. Also great for pre-literacy skills!
